VICTORIA FALLS
The locals also know the billowing rainbow-tinged
spray, as mosi-oa-tunya - the smoke that thunders. This is truly scenic
splendour of the Zambezi plunging over the brink of the falls at a rate of 500
million litres a minute!

LAKE KARIBA
Although the Kariba Dam was surrounded by
controversy, both environmentally and socially, it is a remarkable monument to
man's engineering expertise. It provides considerable electric power to both
Zambia and Zimbabwe and supports a flourishing commercial fishing industry. The
lake's enormity creates magnificent panoramas as the sun casts its radiance
across the glistening water, catching the unique half-submerged trees and
islands.
ATTRACTIONS:
- The
Crocodile Farm - to the west of Siavonga has a number of pens with crocs
ranging from a few weeks to over eighteen years.
- Chirundu
Fossil Forest - with remnants of trees over 150 million years old.
Scattered over the area are sparse Middle and late Stone Age industries,
indicating that these people sometimes made use of fossil wood for making
stone implements.
- Further
down the lake at Sinazongwe, the annual Tiger Fishing Competition attracts
anglers from all over the subcontinent.
- Multi-day
lake safaris.
- If
you have your own boat, the lake is a superb playground for all kinds of
water-sports including paragliding and skiing.

trip on a houseboat is highly recommended, especially at full moon. The
tranquillity of watching the deep orange sun sink on the one side of the
lake and the moonrise over the shimmering waters on the other is very
special.
- A
variety of lake-cruising boats are available for fishing, sundowners or
functions.
- Sailing
on the lake and off its shoreline is a marvellous way to see game, as the
silence of the yacht lets you get extremely close to wild animals.
