Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga is located in the North East of South Africa, between the Drakensberg Mountains and the border with Mozambique. The biggest town is Nelspruit, and the closest airport Kruger Mpumlanga International.

Mpumalanga offers exceptional opportunities for game-viewing, bird-watching, hiking and horse-riding. Its rivers, streams, pools and dams are prime trout fishing areas. The province consists of two sharply contrasting types of scenery - the escarpment which drops more than 3 000 metres, to the hot and humid bush of the lowveld. Waterfalls cascade from the escarpment to carve canyons, crevasses and caves, which can be explored on foot or horseback.

• Kruger National Park - Game viewing is spectacular and it offers a very special environmental experience for the visitor, with a chance to see the Big Five.
• Blyde River Canyon (20km long) - Is one of the greatest natural features in Southern Africa and is a paradise for white water rafters, whilst hot air balloons provide stunning aerial views of this dramatic landscape.
• The Panorama Route - God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and Lisbon, Berlin waterfalls.
• Pilgrim's Rest Historical Village - one of the best examples of a living museum is not to be missed. Revive the Gold Rush Era while you walk through the tin-houses.
• Go caving - Sudwala caves - these huge and spectacular caves are open to the public from 08:30 to 17:00.
• Horse trails are offered - the trails traverse some attractive bushveld and go up the escarpment where you can see forever.
• Hang-gliding and paragliding - The spectacular scenery and the mountainous relief make Mpumalanga a very popular flying destination.
• Hiking - Go on one of Mpumalanga's many gold rush trails - the whole area is a hikers paradise.
